Community Invited to Attend Open Houses for 15 Express Lanes Project

The Riverside County Transportation Commission and project partners will host two community open houses this month in Norco and Corona to provide information and answer questions about upcoming construction of the Interstate 15 Express Lanes.

The project will add two express lanes in both directions to an approximate 15-mile section of I-15 between State Route 60 and Cajalco Road. Pre-construction activities are under way now, and construction in the I-15 median is anticipated to start this summer.

The open houses will be held:

  • Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Nellie Weaver Hall, 3737 Crestview Drive, Norco
  • Thursday, Feb. 28, 2018, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Eagle Glen Golf Club, 1800 Eagle Glen Parkway

No formal presentations will be held; community members will be able to talk one-on-one with project team members. Information also will be available about soundwall construction this is starting this week along the southern portion of the project.

In addition, representatives from Caltrans, the County of Riverside and the City of Corona will be present to provide updates about construction activities adjacent to the 15 Project.

Construction will use a design-build method to speed up project delivery. Once completed, motorists will be able to enter and exit the express lanes at multiple locations along I-15. The project will expand RCTC’s express lane network and provide an additional option for FasTrak account holders.

RCTC and its project partners, Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration, are investing $471 million to improve this heavily traveled corridor. By 2040, traffic volumes are expected to grow by 37 percent, and travel times are forecast to increase by 170 percent. Funding is provided by a combination of federal and local sources, including Measure A, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in Riverside County.

A separate project, the 15/91 Express Lanes Connector, will link the southbound 15 Express Lanes to the westbound 91 Express Lanes and link the eastbound 91 Express Lanes to the northbound 15 Express Lanes. This project is expected to be completed by 2023.
